There are times your work just needs a bit of extra sparkle or something to jazz it up. Feed the Magpie gives you the tools/ techniques that allow you to create that extra
sparkle to draw in the eye. Magpies like sparkly things. We’ll be working primarily with all things “metallic”.

We will address multiple forms of shiny metallics ~ paints, foils, precious metal leaf, paint stiks/ stencils, metallic threads, metallic fabrics. It’ll be a sampler that you’ll
take home samples you create while learning to tame these sometimes troublesome materials. The basic techniques can be used by any skill level and used to enhance existing skills.

    Materials/Kit
The kit includes a yard of black cotton fabric and access to all the materials discussed. This will include several different metallic paints, lots of foils (you’ll get
some to take home), all glues, fusibles. I’ll provide cutting mat and rotary cutter, irons, ironing surfaces, sponges, brushes, scrapers, tape, fusible materials, fabrics, metal leaf, foils, paints,
    .
Bring your own scissors for cutting up materials, a couple of small containers for water, paint etc., and additional fabrics to play upon. Your own teflon sheet (if you have- don’t go out
    and buy one, yet).

Susan has been a sewist from the age of 5. In the mid 90s I finally got to focus on using my skills to create art. While mostly creating art quilts, I use fabric I’ve dyed as
my primary creative material since 2000. I curated and traveled an international exhibition entitled Roots of Racism:Ignorance & Fear, that was created to get people
talking about racism. As a part of its tour it was featured at the International Quilt`v Festival and five museums. The entire exhibition was the art in the American Embassy
in Pakistan for 2 years as a part of the Art in Embassies Program via the US State Department. For several years I traveled the country doing juried art festivals and
have had my work exhibited in many national and international shows. I even had a solo exhibition of my work in Paducah, KY during the famous Quilt Week. Two of my
works have received national awards. My work is in many private, public and corporate art collections and I invite commissions. Most recently, my focus has included
printmaking on fabric using my hand carved linocuts as well as teaching. I have an ongoing series that addresses the value of pollinators in our environment entitled, The
Pollinator Project. I have been on the boards of 5 different, mostly art related non-profits as I believe in giving back to my community. More at /www.rebelquilter.com
