This workshop is designed to teach a new technique that incorporates the idea of layering to achieve color value, depth, relationship, balance, scale and proportion of the elements in a finished product.
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels from novice to experienced fiber artists and is also useful for paper artists.
Materials: Attendees will use sheer fabrics, preferably polyester, such as sheer curtain fabric. Natural fabrics such as silk and cotton are less successful as the media does not adhere as well. Thrift stores are a good source for sheer curtains. Color is immaterial, although white is universal for all papers. Paper is needed for this activity, such as newsprint, especially the funny pages, as it can provide both color and type. The cheaper the paper, the better. I will be experimenting with additional types of paper and will include them if they work when I post supply list. All students are required to bring a roll of paper towels to all Beach Art Center Classes.
Tools: Participants will need a print board large enough for a fat quarter, a fabric squeegee, a silk screen with an overall pattern, rubber gloves, pins to attach the fat quarter to the print board, a plastic kitchen scrubby or a medium to fine sanding block, liquid matte media (I prefer Golden but any will work) and a large piece of plastic such a shower curtain to cover their work table. I will have an iron and ironing board set up to press the fat quarters. I will also have a few silk screens available for participant use, fat quarters for $1.00 each, and some gold leaf at a price to be determined later.
