This class gives you an opportunity to go from a photo to a finished fabric portrait to use in a bag, wall hanging, quilt or other creation. Kim Sherrod, aka Calamity Kim will show you how to easily transform your photo image into a pattern to stitch down using simple easy to follow directions- the process is not difficult and an infinite number of designs can be made depending on the choice of fabrics used in each design. Kim will provide the owl pattern (as in example) and other materials necessary to create your pattern.

    Material/Tools students should bring:
Sewing machine with zig zag and straight stitch capabilities
Small pieces of fabric in black, white, brown and anything for your animal in hand dyed, indigo, shibori or commercial fabric. Example: owl: white, brown, gray; cat: black, yellow, white, blue; dog: brown,
    black, white etc
Photograph of your animal at least 8x10” (can be in line image using photo a computer photoshop type program)
    Thread in black and white
Background fabric 20x20” (drill, denim or canvas for a sturdy bag)
Very tiny amount of fusible Wonder Under or something similar
    Scissors for fabric and paper
Pencil or disappearing pen for marking on fabric

This is a great way to use up scraps or challenge yourself to use a limited palette- you don’t need
a whole lot and sharing is encouraged with other students.
In this class you will have time to make at least one pet/animal portrait and teacher will have a multitude of finished samples to help generate ideas. Any questions about this class or process can be directed to Kim at her email: calamitykimdolls@yahoo.com
